As a permanent resident here in the United States of America, you have the right to travel outside the country and come back without any problems if you have your green card and passport with you. However, some people don't have a passport from their country of origin. In that case, they have to use a travel document. Usually, when you travel with your green card, you don't stay outside the United States of America for more than six months. But if you're planning to stay for more than six months, as I mentioned in one of my previous videos, you have to apply for something called a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit is a travel document for green card holders. It is valid for two years. But if you're planning to stay outside the United States of America for more than two years, you don't have a chance to come back. However, there is an exception to this rule. The exception is that you have to apply for a visa called a returning permanent visa, also known as SB1. This visa is for individuals who have stayed outside the United States of America for more than two years. It is an immigrant visa, so you have to go through another process, including an interview and a medical examination, in order to get this visa and come back to the United States of America.
